Sustainable Supply Chain

Sustainable Supply Chain

AGU's product and service purchases are handled by the administrative and financial affairs unit. The policies applied throughout the procurement processes are as follows.

Ethical Sourcing Policy: It is aimed to ensure the ethical use of resources as well as the responsible and sustainable acquisition of products. It is ensured that the employees involved in the production and performance of the products and services supplied are treated safely and fairly. It is ensured that environmental and social effects are taken into account in the resource use process.

Sustainable Supply Policy: Our sustainable procurement goal is to supply goods and services that will maximize efficiency and effectiveness and minimize social, environmental and economic risks. More information click: https://imid-tr.agu.edu.tr/SDG

Waste Policy: The Zero-Waste Regulation was introduced by the Ministry of Environment regarding waste minimization in Turkey and a “Zero Waste” project has been started. It is as waste management philosophy that involves preventing wastage, using resources efficiently, reviewing reasons for waste formation, preventing or minimizing waste formation & collecting & recovering waste at source separately. All policies from the identification, follow-up and disposal of wastes were determined according to the this regulation and project. AGU has specifications for its contracted partners for the supply of food and materials. These specifications include additional requirements for policies such as ethical sourcing policy, sustainable procurement policy, etc. Please click for examples of specifications.

According to the Abdullah Gül University's technical specifications regarding suppliers and contractors all contractors are obliged to comply with the legal regulations on waste, the AGU Waste Management Directive and the decisions taken by the Waste Management Committee. They must also comply with the guidelines of the "Zero Waste" project and all expenses related to recycling within the scope of this project belong to the contractor. See more information "C. Business Environment" page 19 in this file.

Moreover, AGU evaluates its’ suppliers through an online survey that supports their understanding of a range of environmental, social, and economic issues. Please click to see the survey.

While this survey primarily informs AGU's priorities and policies, it creates an important awareness of sustainability including all dimensions. It also supports suppliers to develop an action plan to address key sustainability issues. It gives us a starting point to focus and measure the impact of interaction with our supply chain on this critical issue. The survey, which we currently apply only to the suppliers identified as critical, will be expanded further next year and aimed to be applied to all our suppliers. Check out our supplier evaluation report to see what the supplier evaluation survey results tell us and where they focus.
