Research infrastructure

As a 3rd generation university, AGU integrates education and research activities with social impact. In this context, infrastructures with a specific focus on sustainability are as follows:

AGU created, in collab with UNDP, the Ministry of Science, Kayseri Chamber of Industry Chamber of Commerce, a Model Factory on its campus. AGU helps the start-up of promising sustainable SMEs, through consultancy/financial support & trains SMEs on lean manufacturing techs, optimization of productivity, energy efficiency & waste management.

AGU established the Central Research Laboratory (AGU-MerLab) in 2019. It has a total area of 1224 m2, 788 m2 of which is laboratories. MerLab is assembled in 10 Thematic Laboratories. The devices and technological infrastructure within MerLab are used effectively in undergraduate and graduate education, research and development and application activities carried out at our university. MerLab makes significant contributions to SDGs, as it is obligatory to indicate which SDG is associated with each course and thesis prepared within AGU.

AGU has The Sustainable Urban Infrastructure Engineering Master's program that is interdisciplinary and focuses on urban infrastructure engineering and sustainability. The aim of the program is to raise research-oriented graduate students who have the knowledge and skills to bring sustainable engineering solutions to the problems of the urban population which are increasing rapidly today and can handle the problems from the perspective of different disciplines. The program is supported by Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering faculty members.  The laboratory names in the Central Research Building are as follows. Research laboratories owned under this program can be viewed from the link.

AGU has established the HyFlex education model, which is a combination of the Hybrid and Flexible words, in its classrooms in accordance with the hybrid education model in order to ensure sustainability in education since the pandemic period.

The HyFlex education model aims to integrate all activities to be carried out for the learning and teaching process with the lecturers in terms of technical and pedagogical aspects and to present them from a comprehensive perspective with its flexible structure and comprehensive technical equipment. With the HyFlex education model, it provided flexibility for students to attend classes face-to-face or online during the pandemic period. There are computers available for student use in different parts of the campus for students to work and connect to HyFlex sessions.

Example of a HyFlex classroom

AGU has developed the Capsule model, a first-of-its-kind social/technical education model in which students work to apply core knowledge to the real world. The new generation curriculum model, consisting of unique learning packages called 'Capsules', enriches professional formation through real-life problems and incorporates 21st century competences. This model constitutes one of the most important building blocks of innovative design. The main purpose of the capsule education system is to provide real life experiences necessary for the acquisition of the competences specified in the capsule.
