In cooperation with the European Union Information Centers Network and the Kayseri Chamber of Commerce, Sustainability Ambassadors are determined by carrying out the Sustainability Envoys Program in Kayseri with the support of Abdullah Gül University. Within the scope of the program, Sustainability Ambassadors are trained with the issues related to Sustainable Development Goals, which are adopted and implemented by the United Nations with the Paris Agreement, and which Turkey has started to implement after becoming a party to this agreement. The trainings are held open to the participation of the local people. In the program, 30 participants participated and received 48 hours of training.
The aims of the program are:
- To raise awareness about combating climate change.
- Making the participants adopt the Sustainability Goals
- Preparing projects that will produce new technologies in the fields of sustainability
- Exchange of ideas for policymaking
The event lasted two weeks. In the first week of the event, the participants developed five projects that produced solutions to global problems. In the last week, training on sustainability issues were held. Some of the training topics carried out in the program are sustainable energy, climate law, circular economy, and combating inequalities.
AGU, aiming to make the concept of sustainability applicable in every field, supports the participation of its staff and students in these programs, and ensures the establishment of the concept of sustainability by the University units. Within the scope of the program, the possibilities of cooperation for the solution of increasing global problems and the policies that can be developed are also discussed.
It has been decided to prepare the Kayseri Volunteer Local Evaluation Report (VLR), which will include the sustainability activities of Kayseri by the ambassadors, including the staff and students at Abdullah Gül University.

Climate Envoys Movement Collaborations
Turkey became a party to the Paris Agreement in the second half of 2021 to strengthen national contributions within the scope of the global climate change fight, and Turkey's 2053 net zero emission target and green development policy were announced. Subsequently, the Climate Change Department was established.
The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change called for the youth to be a part of Turkey's green transformation, and then the "Climate Ambassadors Movement" was launched by establishing official contacts with all universities in Turkey.
The aims of the Young Climate Envoys are:
- Starting the process of making all universities in our country green and climate-friendly,
- Spread of green transformation from universities, which are the home of science, to its surroundings
- Creating awareness of climate change
During this process, all 209 universities determined the Climate Envoys to represent them and formally notified the Ministry. Yunus Yıldız, the head of the Young Tema Club, and a 3rd year Mechanical Engineering student at AGU, has been designated as the climate ambassador. In this context, our climate envoy took part in the writing team of the Youth Declaration, which was presented at the Climate Council held in Konya in February 2022. Moreover, he represented our university by participating in the Eco-Climate Summit held in March 2022, and The World is Our Common Home events held at the Presidential Complex of the Republic of Turkey. In the future, he will continue to work to increase our university's awareness of the climate crisis, to reach the zero emission target, and to participate in policy-making processes.
